Addendum to the End of Civilization…….

B13837 / Mon, 20 Mar 2006 06:03:40 / “War on Terror”

That was very well said.

Now remove yourself from the delusion that the “worker bee” class will be left to face a future of reduced resources and a return to living in some sort of “middle age” life style.

You hit the population problem exactly on the head. Human population growth is not sustainable.

History is many times the best indicator of what course governments will chart in the future. When competition for resources intensifies, or begins to limit the growth of the most technologically advanced cultures, they generally react by differentiating themselves from the larger whole and begin a process of vilification of those not part of their culture.

Hence a long and bloody history of warfare. During the German domination and occupation of Europe not only did this process occur with cultures outside of Germany but those within as well.

In an age of weapons of mass destruction, widespread full scale warfare would yield no benefit to the winning culture. Limited war is also an expensive proposition and can only be economically justified in regions where the resources are so critical that the economic benefit justifies this military action.

Take for instance our current oil war.

Iraq with 10% of the world’s oil reserves and only .004% of the world’s population is a prime example. Economics has always prevailed over ethics. As for the expense of the war, now racing towards 250 billion, if you work that cost out towards the potential reward of control of a 115 billion barrel crude oil reserve, it is just over $2.00 a barrel. Worst case estimates now put the cost of the war possibly as high as trillion dollars.

$8.70 a barrel.

Given reduced production costs because of the nature of oil drilling in the region’s geography along with today’s higher value placed on crude oil, that’s still a relative bargain basement price for cornering this market.

But this still doesn’t address the fundamental problem of growing population and diminishing resources. The answer then is the general war on terror. We’ve seen it in various forms throughout the ages. Those necessary for support of the existing system protected, those deemed unnecessary vilified and eliminated.

This process need not be accomplished on an industrial scale as it was in Europe by the Nazi’s.

Another example would be the American holocaust of the Native American population that took centuries to end in the near total assimilation of the remaining population.

What the future will reveal of the end-game of the “war on terror” will no more resemble either of these examples than they do each other, but the result will be the same.

“You’re either with us or against us.”

As the will of the elite, becomes the action of governments, those who serve their interests will be the “Cowboys” and those who do not will become the “Indians” and no one will ride the fence.

If you believe you’ll survive whatever comes by accepting a more primitive and earth friendly lifestyle, look around. There was an entire race of people that excelled at that lifestyle for millennia.

Their descendants are operating casinos.

Think Ventura is out there? Try the Washington Post who found that:

    * Some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies work on programs related to counterterrorism, homeland security and intelligence in about 10,000 locations across the United States.

    * An estimated 854,000 people, nearly 1.5 times as many people as live in Washington, D.C., hold top-secret security clearances.

Seems in the event of critical “budget” battles with public employees such as the one currently playing out in Wisconsin; or the looming Federal government shutdown, “they” have it covered.

Scott Walker the Union busting, servant to “the cause” of big business in Madison, WI, honors the legend of Ronald Reagan and of course the “trickle down” economic theory that is economic Darwinism.

Looks like this new robotic technology is being implemented from the top down as well and is destined first for the aeronautic and transportation industries.

On February 24th 2011, NASA launched the first human-like robot to space to become a permanent resident of the International Space Station. Robonaut 2, or R2, was developed jointly by NASA and General Motors under a cooperative agreement to develop a robotic assistant that can work alongside humans, whether they are astronauts in space or workers at GM manufacturing plants on Earth.

It’s worth remembering that in the event of another economic crisis that GM’s largest national market is China, followed by the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Italy, Russia, Mexico, and Uzbekistan.

Roughly two-thirds of the GM’s unit sales in 2010 came from overseas markets, notes analyst Ed Kim, of automotive research and marketing company AutoPacific. Last year, GM became the first automaker to sell more than 2 million cars in China, selling 2.3 million vehicles, and if the economy there stays solid some analysts believe it will soon hit the 3 million mark.

Another major slowdown in domestic car sales could result in the energy and materials being redirected towards mass production and rapid implementation of these new lines of humanoid robotic technologies.

There are currently about 390,000 UAW jobs nationwide. How fast could this technology be developed and implemented? The Robonaut2 weighs but 330 lbs.

How many vehicles did GM sell last month?

Robots building robots and current economic incentives and conditions.
Millions within months. This is the next big thing.

Humanoid Robotics is the ultimate “Green” Technology.

One robot has the ability to replace several human employees and outperform them with networking capabilities that will make the humanoid robot instantly capable of performing a vast array of formerly specialized skills.

No breaks, no time off, no health care benefits, no legal rights or wants whatsoever and most importantly huge energy savings for the general economy over human employees as these workers don’t require water, food, shelter or transportation to and from their “employment.” Not even a Chinese peasant can compete in this future market of semi-skilled and eventually highly skilled labor performed for no compensation, just the upfront capital costs required to build, power and maintain this inhuman workforce.

It’s how the “West” will win.

Of course the multitude of new millionaires and billionaires this ” no labor economy” creates will of course happily pay everyones share of the taxes necessary to reallocate this newfound wealth to maintain and improve the living standards of the rest of us, with our attendent social problems and environmental costs.

  3. gwhunta says:

You’ll note after reading the linked story below that of the leading global manufacturers and marketers of vehicles, General Motors, unlike Chrysler, in spite of its recent Federal government bailout and reorganization, ranks dead last on improvements regarding labor efficiency.

Could it be they’ve decided on the quantum leap of humanoid robotics rather than the limited incremental gains afforded by the efforts of their competitors. GM obviously has the inside track on Robonaut 2’s capabilities and plans of their own, regarding the use of humanoid robotics for safer and more efficient manufacturing operations.

Labor hours to assemble vehicles in North America?

  4. gwhunta says:

Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.
    ~Abraham Lincoln

(Talk like that today could get you shot in the head.)

For the “average American” how many hours on the job to make the payments to buy a new car? Figures vary by manufacturer and model, but the average cost of labor for a new vehicle averages under 10% of its cost. While replacement of assembly line workers won’t result in radical price cuts for new vehicles, a smaller overall domestic vehicle market will reduce the price of raw materials and make vehicles produced in the North American market far more competitive globally.

For decades we saw little to no improvement in CAFE standards, most vehicles on U.S. highways today are now economically, technologically and environmentally obsolete. The U.S. ethanol industry will continue to be subsidized, is growing in capacity and is currently exporting ethanol overseas due to market saturation in the domestic market.

Only a portion of the current U.S. fleet can tolerate an ethanol mix beyond E-10, though E15 is the next logical step. If you’re not one of those fortunate enough to keep pace in this race, your “clunker” will be dedicated to improving the bottom line for the “revitalization” of the U.S. manufacturing base.

We have already proven with the industrial robot over its life of say 15 years, when you take initial cost and amortize over 15 years, add energy and all maintenance costs, your cost per hour for that robotic worker on a two shift operation is about $2.50 to $3 per hour, depending on the size of the robot.

If you ran three shifts, it would be even less.

One of the many beauties of a humanoid style design for a robot is the built in human expectation of similar situational awareness capabilities, which will be a total underestimation of the actual capabilities of networked machines.

Twice this year we’ve witnessed “political brinkmanship”, first with the threat of a federal government shutdown over the lack of a fully authorized federal budget for the remainder of the fiscal year; followed by the debt ceiling debacle, which in all reality wasn’t settled at all but simply postponed to the 23rd of December, 2011.

While both these dreaded deadlines were seemingly met with last minute political compromise and the dire consequenses of inaction temporarily avoided, don’t count on a similar outcome this December as it isn’t likely. “They” do big things.

We’ve now become quite accustomed to purposeful economic brinkmanship.

Police said Tuesday that 47-year-old Timothy Mitchell was shot by the officer and pronounced dead at the scene in Alger County. Authorities were working to determine whether the crash or shooting caused his death.

The altercation was reported in a nearby community and police in Munising had spotted the vehicle in the case. State police are investigating. The Munising police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation takes place.

The passing of proposal one on the August 5th, 2014 Michigan primary ballot will further enhance the economic incentive to utilize mechanical over human labor and the shortfall of revenue to the State’s general fund will either mean reduced services or increased taxes elsewhere in Michigan’s economy.

Reduced employment and further cuts in services is a recipe for disaster, not safe and strong communities. Framed as an “unfair double tax on yesterday’s industrial investments” the passing of proposal one in the primary election, where only a minority of voters participate, will provide additional incentives for businesses to automate and robotize their production lines and services rendered. Industrial and humanoid robots won’t be paying any income taxes, nor personal property taxes now either. Combined with mandatory hikes in the minimum wage, robotic labor is increasingly likely to replace human labor in a broad array of applications in the foreseeable future. IT’s a brave new world indeed!

I am really not trying to be cute or coy about these questions and commentaries. I have done open source research for decades as a hobby. I am neither a democrat or republican, conservative or liberal.

I am critical of both parties and the wings thereof and know for certain we are all being misled into our own undoing, which will be accomplished by means of a controlled collapse of our existing society in a sequential process that has been in the making for decades.

While the establishment of this “plan B” was necessary to insure the continuity of government in the event of man made (nuclear war) or catastrophic natural disaster (solar flare), its implementation is an enticing option for the 1 percent holding the wealth and the MIC.

  33. Wade Roberts says:

Kasich and Bill Clinton joined forces in the late 1990’s to balance the federal budget on the backs of millions of innocent children with a welfare reform bill that left them to grow up in desperate poverty. The Ohio rebound is based almost entirely on additional income based on the economic boom that fracking the earth beneath has yielded in improved natural gas and oil recovery, which is fine if you don’t mind the environmental issues that come with it; but it’s a boom then bust industry as these resources are finite.

Fracking was one of the motives for our current disaster in Flint. The KWA pipeline that is being built and scheduled for completion soon will deliver to DTE 200 million gallons of water from Lake Huron as surface water (Flint – Saginaw River water) is too corrosive and expensive to pretreat in the quantities needed for the equipment and chemical additives that DTE will use to frack the earth beneath the oil and gas fields in the region.

To give you an idea of the volume of water they intend to fracture the earth each day that will be chemically treated and lost to the ecosystem; the City of Flint uses about a quarter of that at max volume, as its sewage treatment can only deal with 50 million gallons per day, that is treated and returned to the Flint River.

The water that prior to this current man made and intentional disaster from the City of Flint wastewater treatment plant actually improved the river water quality, as it wasn’t carrying the road salt that ends up in the river basin with it.

Kasich is a professional politician. He does have a straightforward style that is appealing; but he as most of the rest seems to feel that the material resources and the profits from their extraction belong to the highest bidders, not We the People. A little like the Billions of dollars of nickel coming out of the Eagle Mine here in the UP, that 99% of the profits are headed straight for the Bank of London. That was a Granholm deal, Hillary Clinton’s Senior Advisor and Surrogate. They are all but Sanders wolves in sheeps clothes. Sanders didn’t belong to either political party and has been a grass roots funded independent candidate his entire career; as Democrats and Republicans are in all reality just two wings of a property party that keeps the rich in possession of the resources and the rest of us at their beck and call.

Technology is on the cusp of replacing all labor. Most people aren’t as smart as their phones. Democratic socialism isn’t a “welfare check” it’s your ticket to survival in a technological and second industrial revolution that is already in progress that will make “work” as we once knew it, obsolete.

Robonaut 2 is working in orbit as we speak.

Research the capabilities of this machine.

Humanoid assembly line units, far less sophisticated can be had for 1/2 the current minimum wage.

The pace of change is advancing rapidly and both blue and white collar workers are to post industrial America as we know it, as obsolete as the plow horse after WWII; when the most were slaughtered, butchered and sent to Europe to feed the population when the bombs finally stopped dropping.

Is Kasich any better or worse than your average politician?

It’s just a matter of style, the political machine doesn’t give them anywhere near the autonomy you might be led to believe, unless We the People demand it.
